Oxford

Oxford is thought to have evolved in the Saxon period, soon after the Romans left England in the 400s. The Norman's took control of England in 1066, with the University of Oxford being established around 1096.

Oxford is the oldest University in the English speaking world, with buildings in every style of architecture from Anglo-Saxon to Medieval / Norman, Gothic, Tudor, Jacobean, Queen Anne, Palladian, Georgian, Regency, Victorian, Edwardian and now Modern.

Oxford also grew in the 1800s and 1900s through industry such as printing and car manufacturing.

Inspector Morse was a Police Detective TV series shot between 1987 and 2000 with the main character played by John Thaw. The series used famous places in Oxford for shoots such as the Sheldonian Theatre, Bodleian Library, Ashmolean Museum and New College.

The Harry Potter film series was shot between 2001 and 2011, with some shoots at Oxford, now popular places to visit, such as Christ Church College – Bodley Staircase, Hall & Cloisters. The Bodleian Library – Divinity School & Duke Humfrey’s Library. New College – Cloisters, Courtyard & Tree.
