Carlisle Town Hall
Carlisle Town Hall is at the City Centre overlooking
the large Market Square. The Town Hall was built from
the 1700s. There is an Information Centre in the hall
for information on the area with maps. The area

Guildhall & Museum
The Guildhall is next to the Town Hall. This is the
only Medieval house left in Carlisle, of a timber
frame design. The museum is up stairs covering the
eight Trade Guilds of Carlisle such as Butchers,
Merchants, Shoemakers, Skinners, Smiths, Tailors,

Carlisle Cathedral
Carlisle Cathedral is situated next to the Town Hall
in the centre of Carlisle. The Cathedral was built
from 1122, it is now one of the top attractions in
the city for photos, drawings and paintings. Free

Tullie House Museum and Art
Gallery
The museum is situated on Castle Street, a short walk
north of the Town Hall, close to Carlisle Castle.
Covering fine and decorative art, human history and
natural sciences. Also covers the Roman period and
wars between England and Scotland. There are also a

Carlisle Castle
Carlisle Castle is situated a few hundred yards north
of the Town Hall. The castle was built from the 1100s
and has been involved in a number of wars between the
English and Scots. An interesting place to explore,

Citadel Carlisle
The twin towers of the Citadel are situated about 300
yards south of the town hall by the train station.
They were built in 1810 to be used for courts and a
prison. The earlier entrance here from the 1100s was
named Botcher Gate. One of the towers is now often
open to the public. This is one of the top photo
spots in Carlisle.
